About Lefton Family
Maybe it's been a few years since your last checkup, and a small chip on a front tooth has started to bother you every time you smile. Or your teenager just made the soccer team and needs a mouth guard, while you've been waking up with a sore jaw and wondering whether it's related to your teeth. These everyday situations bring many Sarasota families through our doors. Since 1997, we've helped neighbors sort through questions like these with patience, honest explanations, and care that fits their lives.
Lefton Family Dentistry began in 1997, when Dr. Marc D. Lefton opened our office with a simple goal: give people in Sarasota a dental home where they feel welcome and understood. For more than 25 years, we've grown alongside this community. Many patients have been with us through several stages of life, from routine cleanings to replacing a tooth years later.
Our philosophy is built on the belief that good dentistry starts with good conversation. Before we recommend anything, we want to know what brought you in, what worries you, and what you hope to change. Some patients want to keep their teeth healthy and avoid surprises. Others are ready to brighten their smile or finally address a tooth that's been failing for a while. We take time to explain what we see and walk through your options, so every decision is yours to make with confidence.
Today, Dr. Lefton practices alongside Dr. Jensen Bouton, and together they carry that founding philosophy forward. Two dentists working together means more availability for our patients and a shared commitment to consistent, thoughtful care.
One of the most common questions we hear is, "What will my first appointment actually involve?" It's a fair question, especially if you've been away from the dentist for a while or felt rushed at another office. Our goal is a calm, unhurried visit in a welcoming, technology-driven environment, where you understand what's happening at each step.
Here's what most new patients can expect:
- A conversation first. We ask about your health history, any discomfort, and your goals for your smile.
- A thorough dental exam. We look closely at your teeth and gums, and we include an oral cancer screening as part of caring for your overall health.
- A professional cleaning. Our dental hygienist removes buildup and shares practical tips for home care.
- A clear explanation of findings. If something needs attention, we explain why, what your options are, and what can wait.
- Time for your questions. Nothing moves forward until you feel informed and comfortable.
If you feel anxious about dental work, please tell us. We offer nitrous oxide sedation for patients who would like help relaxing during treatment. Many people find that simply knowing what to expect, and having a team that listens, makes a meaningful difference.
Care for Many Different Needs
Patients often ask whether they'll need to visit several offices to get everything done. In many cases, the answer is no. We see patients ages 9 and up and provide general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry in one place, which keeps care simpler for busy families.
On the preventive side, we focus on keeping small problems small through regular exams and cleanings, dental sealants, and fillings when needed. For patients with gum concerns, we provide gum disease treatment, including scaling and root planing and ongoing periodontal maintenance. When a tooth is damaged or missing, we offer crowns, bridges, complete and partial dentures, and implant-supported bridges to help restore comfort and function.
If you'd like to change how your smile looks, we can talk through in-office teeth whitening, composite bonding, porcelain and composite veneers, tooth recontouring, clear aligners, or a more complete smile makeover. We also help with concerns that aren't always linked to dentistry, such as TMJ/TMD therapy for jaw discomfort, night guards for teeth grinding, sports guards for active kids and adults, and sleep apnea treatment. And when something unexpected happens, like a broken tooth or sudden pain, we offer emergency dental appointments and simple extractions when a tooth can't be saved.
Making Care Affordable and Straightforward
Cost is a real concern for many families, and we'd rather address it openly than leave you guessing. We welcome self-pay patients, and we've created options to make regular care easier to plan for.
Our in-house membership plan is $395 and covers exams and cleanings, a helpful option for patients without dental insurance who want to stay on top of preventive care. For larger treatment, we offer flexible financing with a quick pre-qualification process that won't affect your credit. We're happy to go over these options with you before any treatment begins so you can choose what works for your budget.
