Comfort When Needed

Nitrous oxide sedation is available to help you feel more relaxed during treatment.

A single chipped front tooth, a gap that has bothered you since middle school, or a smile that has slowly dulled from years of coffee can change how you feel every time you look in the mirror. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the appearance of your teeth: their color, shape, size, alignment, and how they fit together as a whole. At Lefton Family Dentistry, we have helped Sarasota patients improve the look of their smiles for over 25 years. We combine cosmetic care with the general and restorative dentistry we provide every day, so your new smile is built on a healthy foundation.

People come to us with a wide range of concerns, and each one calls for a different approach. Some patients want brighter teeth for an upcoming wedding or job interview. Others have a tooth that was chipped years ago and never quite matched again. Some have teeth that are slightly uneven in length, worn down at the edges, or spaced in a way they would like to close. Many have a combination of small issues that, together, make them hesitant to smile in photos.

Because our treatment options are broad, we can match the solution to the concern instead of fitting every patient into the same plan. Common situations and the treatments we may discuss include:

  • Stained or yellowed teeth: in-office teeth whitening
  • Small chips, gaps, or uneven edges: composite bonding or tooth recontouring
  • Teeth that are worn, discolored, or misshapen: porcelain or composite veneers
  • Crowded or slightly crooked teeth: clear aligners
  • Damaged or missing teeth: crowns, bridges, or implant-supported bridges
  • Several concerns at once: a comprehensive smile makeover

A smile makeover brings several of these treatments together into one coordinated plan. For example, a patient might straighten their teeth with clear aligners, whiten them, and then use veneers or bonding to refine the shape of a few front teeth so everything looks balanced.

The best cosmetic results start with healthy teeth and gums. Before we recommend any cosmetic treatment, Dr. Marc D. Lefton or Dr. Jensen Bouton will look at your overall oral health. If there is active decay or gum disease, we will usually address that first through fillings, scaling and root planing, or other treatment. Cosmetic work placed over untreated problems is unlikely to look or feel its best for long.

It also helps to know that cosmetic treatments vary in how much they change the natural tooth. Whitening and bonding are generally conservative, while porcelain veneers involve preparing the tooth surface so the veneer can fit naturally. We will explain what each option involves, how it may suit your goals, and what tradeoffs to consider, so you can make a decision that feels right. If you are nervous about dental visits, ask us about nitrous oxide sedation, which can help you feel more relaxed during treatment. We see patients ages 9 and up, though most cosmetic treatments are planned with adults and older teens in mind.

Caring for Your Results Over Time

Your daily habits play a large role in how your cosmetic dental work looks over the years. Brushing twice a day, flossing, and keeping up with regular dental cleanings and exams help protect both your natural teeth and any bonding, veneers, or crowns. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco can stain natural teeth and some materials, so limiting them or rinsing afterward can help keep your smile brighter.

If you grind or clench your teeth, especially at night, that pressure can wear down teeth and damage cosmetic restorations. We offer custom night guards to help protect your investment, along with sports mouth guards for patients who play contact sports. Regular visits also let us check your restorations and catch small issues early, before they become larger concerns.

Paying for Cosmetic Dentistry

We want cost to be clear from the start. After your consultation, we will walk you through your treatment options and the associated fees so there are no surprises. We welcome self-pay patients, and for those who want to spread out the cost of care, we offer flexible financing with a quick pre-qualification process that won't affect your credit.

Many of our patients also take advantage of our $395 in-house membership plan, which covers exams and cleanings. Those routine visits are an important part of keeping your smile healthy before and after cosmetic treatment, and the plan makes that preventive care simple to budget for.
